As she prepares to compete on the international level this weekend, York County’s Marlee Starliper added to her growing list of track and field accolades

Starliper, who will be a senior at Northern High School in the fall, made USA TODAY’s ALL-USA Girls Track and Field team in the distance category for the 2018-19 season.

Mike Kennedy, the high school editor of Track and Field News, makes the girls’ team selections; criteria include ranking on USA TODAY Sports and Track and Field News national lists and the number of top performances along with head-to-head competition during the regular season and in major postseason meets.

USA TODAY noted: “Starliper had the best postseason campaign among the distance runners, taking the 1,600 meters at the New Balance Nationals and the 3,000 at the USATF Junior Championships.” She also won a state championship in cross-country in the fall and took silver in the 1,600 in the state track and field championships.

Starliper still has a race to run this season, competing in the 3,000 at the Pan American U20 Championships in Costa Rica July 19. She had won the event in the USATF U20 Outdoor Championships in Florida in June, earning her the spot in the Pan-Am competition.

Another southcentral Pennsylvania runner made USA TODAY’s second team in the distance category – Greencastle-Antrim’s Taryn Parks, who beat Starliper in the 1,600 during the PIAA championships this year. Parks and Starliper both beat the state record in the event.
