Women’s Cross Country Competes at Hornet Harrier The Southern Maryland Chronicle
The College of Southern Maryland Hawks women’s cross country team ran at the Shenandoah University Hornet Harrier on September 28 in Kernstown, Virginia.
Sophomore Sierra Walker ran the best time of the CSM runners, finishing the women’s 5K race in 23:11.7. She placed 72nd out of 143 runners and was the third-fastest junior college runner at the meet.
Walker improved upon her time from last year’s Hornet Harrier by 1.3 seconds.
Freshman Brittney Douglas was the next Hawk and fourth junior college runner to cross the finish line, completing the race in 23:54.1 and finishing in 83rd place overall. CSM head coach Ken Killion said her time made her the third-fastest runner in school history over the 5K distance.
Freshman Briana Douglas ran a time of 25:50.9, good enough to make her the fifth-fastest runner in school history over the 5K distance. She finished the meet in 108th place.
Freshman Gabrielle Wilson crossed the finish line in 30:15.9, seventh-best in school history for the 5K distance and 131rd at the meet.
“It is a very hilly course and every one of the women stepped up to the challenge,” Killion said. “Having the past weekend off gave us some time to get in some extra hill work knowing what the course at Shenandoah was like.”
“This sets them up for some very good performances as we prepare for the last half of the season with the team peaking for the regional meet,” Killion said.
