Kenyan long distance runners Joyce Chepkirui and John Jacob Kibet Kendagor have been provisionally suspended for violating the International Association of Athletics Federations anti-doping rules, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) announced on Tuesday.

Chepkirui, a former Commonwealth and African 10,000m champion, has been charged with use of a prohibited substance/method, (Article 2.2) – ABP case.

Kendagor, who finished fifth in the Istanbul Marathon in November 2018, has been charged with evading, refusing or failing to submit to sample collection.

Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei said in June that all athletes implicated in doping will not represent Kenya again in any competition.

This brings to six the number of Kenyan athletes provisionally suspended in 2019 for violation of the IAAF anti-doping rules.

Last month, the AIU announced that long distance runner Salome Biwott was provisionally suspended after testing positive for the banned substance Norandrosterone.

In April, World Half Marathon record holder Abraham Kiptum and Cyrus Rutto were provisionally suspended after failing a dope test. They were both charged for Use of a Prohibited Substance/Method (Article 2.2) – ABP case.
