Happy Year of the Rabbit (and Year of the Cat)! Here is our guide to local Lunar New Year celebrations to enjoy this year.

Lunar New Year on the Pier

Celebrate the Lunar New Year with a lion dance by the Mak Fai Kung Fu Club and fire pits on Pier 62.

Lunar New Year Fair at the Wing Luke Museum

Indoor activities require paid museum admission – free for members.

Celebrate the Year of the Rabbit at Wing Luke Museum’s annual Lunar New Year Fair. Featuring a live lion dance in front of the King Street museum entrance to bring good luck for the new year. After the lion dance, take part in a variety of family-friendly activities including craft-making, games, art, exploration of a new Lunar New Year exhibit, and a special storytime session where you can learn all about lion dancing.

Story time at the Wing Luke Museum: The Year of the Rabbit with Oliver Chin

Thursday, February 2, 11 a.m. Virtual event, on Facebook and the Wing Luke Museum website. Free.

The Wing Luke Museum welcomes back author Oliver Chin to read from his collection of tales from the Chinese Zodiac with a lively story about Rosie, an adventurous bunny with extra-long ears. Thank you to Oliver Chin and illustrator Justin Roth for sharing this inspiring and entertaining story to kick off the Year of the Rabbit!

Lunar New Year Celebration – Year of the Rabbit in the Chinatown International District

Enjoy live entertainment, lion & dragon dances, cultural performances, food walk, street vendors and retail shops across the district. The Food Walk will feature delicious menu items from Chinatown-ID businesses on Saturday. Microsoft Asian Spring Festival at Seattle Center

The 2023 Microsoft Asian Spring Festival consists of an afternoon festival and an evening gala performance, which are ticketed separately. It is highly recommended to get the full Chinese Lunar New Year celebration experience with your friends, your families, or on your own starting from the fun and rich afternoon activities (lots of games, food court, afternoon performance, photo booth with traditional Chinese outfits, gifts, etc.) into the remarkable evening celebration gala performance happening in the main auditorium of the famous Seattle McCaw Hall.

“AZN GLO” is a space by and for the TRANS + QUEER + API + BIPOC community, and to center their joy. Get ready for a night of dancing and drag. This party lands two days before Lunar New Year 2023. While many traditions and stories surround this night, this is always a time to celebrate togetherness and family. This party can be a meeting place for you and your chosen family. As we dance let’s release all the stress and worries of the previous year, and let the Year of the Rabbit ring in new hope, peace, and prosperity.

Lunar New Year 2023 Festivities Kick-Off at Lucky Envelope Brewing

Lucky Envelope cofounders Raymond Kwan and Barry Chan named their Ballard craft brewery Lucky Envelope for the colorful red envelopes traditionally stuffed with money and given out on Chinese New Year to bring good fortune. As they’ve made a welcome habit of doing, they’ll release some new beers for the holiday, including the Water Rabbit Yuzu Pilsner (made in collaboration with North Carolina-based Highland Brewing) and White Rabbit Milk Stout (made in collaboration with Ladd & Lass Brewing). Other festivities include red envelope giveaways, merch, and dim sum treats from the food truck Panda Dim Sum.
