LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) — On March 16, organizers announced the cancellation of the 2020 Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon.

Organizers for the Lincoln Marathon have announced the cancellation of the 2020 Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon.

“The health and well-being of our runners, volunteers and spectators is our top priority,” Nancy Sutton Moss, co-race director of the Marathon said.

The 43rd annual Lincoln Marathon was scheduled for May 3, 2020.

Organizers said they are unable to give runners a complete refund because they have already incurred race expenses. Instead, organizers are offering runners several options.

Options for runners
– Run the race virtually: runners will submit their time and distance and receive a finisher medal and race shirt
– Discount: Runners can receive a 30% discount on the 2021 Lincoln Marathon and Half Marathon
– Donation: Race organizers will make donations to the Food Bank of Lincoln and the Heartland Food Bank to help families affected by the COVID-19 pandemic
