running helps me push through life’s stressors and extremes

Running keeps me on the path. In a figurative sense, running helps me push through life’s stressors and extremes. I started running my senior year of high school during the strenuous college admissions process. I took a break during college but once I graduated I discovered a plethora of new challenges in the “real world.” In late 2018 I welcomed running back into my life as if it was an old friend. In ‘18 I ran 19 races, four of them half marathons! Every race was a unique experience.

There are so many reasons why I run. I enjoy the challenge, the camaraderie with my team (Go New York Flyers!), and the mind/body benefits. I also enjoy interacting with friends and fans on Strava as well! Finally, running is a family affair. My father ran the NYC Marathon 8x with a PR of 3:21:12. I still have memories as a child standing on 79th and 1st as my dad ran to the sidewalk, changed his shoes, gave me a high five, and continued running. I’m running my first NYC Marathon this November and I cannot wait to see my dad at the finish line.

Why I joined RW+

I started reading RW in my high school library and I enjoy supporting the publication 🙂

no better way to start or end the day

I spend so much time sitting at a computer! As a digital marketer I spend a lot of time on the internet helping bridge the gap between publishers and brands. There’s no better way to start or end the day with a run after a long day working alongside my running colleagues! A few of us ran a half marathon and team-members came to cheer us on. I also run for my girlfriend as well. She’s so supportive of my races and has even completed a few herself! I’m so proud to see how she progresses on her running journey.

lungs on fire

I usually run after work 4-5x per week. I try to get in one morning workout per week but when triathlon season rolls around I’ll be doing 2x a days since there’s not enough time to swim, bike, and run! I run in Central Park or the West Side Highway. I live in Manhattan and both are very accessible. My favorite route is the 5 mile loop of Central Park. That being said, there’s no better feeling than making it to the top of Harlem hill with your lungs on fire and having the smooth descent to the three-sisters.

Favorite gear

On my feet are Asics Gel-Kayanov26s. I have a wide build that’s atypical for distance runners so I need a little extra support. Also, Balega socks are remarkably comfortable.

Marathon goals

I’m a long way away but if I could qualify for the Boston Marathon that would be a huge achievement. I also want to run the London Marathon at some point as well!
