Autumn has arrived in Missouri, and that means cooler temperatures to better enjoy outdoor activities such as running and hiking.

The Engineer Trail is a 2.5-mile trek with trailhead entrances located at Morelli Heights and the Noncommissioned Officer Association billets. The trail is open to runners and walkers, military members and their families.

According to Rick St. Cyr, Directorate of Public Works project manager and engineer technician, the trail recently underwent a summer-long upgrade, to include new retaining walls, drainage ditches and a resurfacing of new gravel.

In addition, benches have been relocated to afford better views of the natural surroundings.

“I think people are going to really like all the improvements,” St. Cyr said.

Everyone is reminded to practice situational awareness when planning to use the trail. There are no lights, so it’s not recommended to be out there after dark.

“Phone signals can be sparse, as well,” St. Cyr said. “I’d take a buddy.”
