Gurgaon’s biggest running event – the Millennium City Marathon – returned with its 5th edition yesterday and saw the largest turnout of runners in the city’s history. Over 6,000 runners turned up before dawn at Golf Course Road to participate in the mega running event, which had four categories – full marathon, half-marathon, 10k Speed Challenge, and a 5k Joy of Running run. With a focus on being environment-friendly, this year, the organisers had chosen to promote water conservation efforts in the city through this run. The event gave a chance to many of the city’s accomplished runners and triathletes to act as pacers and guide the newer runners through the long distances. Akshay, a 28-year-old from the city, who took part in the 10km run, said, “This was my first attempt at this distance and it felt great. The city has such a great running culture that it felt natural to start this. The atmosphere was great, the route was amazing and everyone was so supportive that it helped.”
