Thousands of runners took part in the 26 mile race and here are some of the best costumes worn today
The London Marathon kicked off this morning, (October 2), with thousands of runners attempting the 26 mile distance. There were also hundreds of professionals runners who took on the challenge, with Yalemzerf Yehualaw winning the women’s race and Amos Kipruto winning the men’s.
Amongst the professional runners were thousands of amateurs who ran past London landmarks in the gruelling test of endurance. As the city shut down for the yearly event, the streets were with those wishing to clap on the brave souls who took part in the event.
42,000 people started the race and a select few even went a step further and decided to complete the challenge in fancy dress. There were runners dressed as dogs, fictional T.V characters, buildings, and jungle animals!
Some of those who dressed up were raising money for charity, others donning costumes to excite the thousands who gathered to watch the running race on London’s streets this Sunday morning.
We’ve put together a selection of images which show some of the most bonkers and brilliant outfits worn in today’s race.
