Fly Girl Collective Launches First Virtual Race to Celebrate Black History Month  Women’s Health

  • London based running and fitness collective, Fly Girl Collective, has announced the launch of a new virtual race
  • ‘Run for the Culture’ invites Black women to move this autumn in honour of UK Black History Month taking place in October
  • With no set distance, runners can decide their own race and complete accordingly

This October, Fly Girl Collective is encouraging Black women to take part in their first virtual race, ‘Run for the Culture’, to celebrate Black History Month and honour the achievements of Britain’s African and Caribbean communities.

Taking place between the 19th and 26th of October, participants are asked to set a run based on what they’re able to achieve, with the choice to pick from 1 mile, 5k or 10k. Everyone who logs their run will receive a medal.

‘The Black Lives Matter protests may have died down, but our lives still matter – especially the wellbeing of black women who are more likely to experience health inequities or face barriers to participating in sport and fitness,’ explains Fly Girl Collective founder, Matilda Egere-Cooper.

‘Run For The Culture is an opportunity to honour Black History Month by celebrating black women and the things they can achieve – like completing a fun race challenge.’

How much does it cost to sign up?

Race registration will cost you £20 plus a booking fee and a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to BLAM UK – a charity committing to improving the wellbeing and self-esteem of people of African descent through Black History lessons.

Registration is open until Friday September 18th.
