The sprint finish with which Lando Norris secured his first podium finish in Formula One yesterday was worthy of the finest distance runners. In his 22nd race in F1, after a debut season in which he finished 11th in the drivers’ championship, the 20-year-old form Bristol suddenly sensed an opportunity in the closing stages in Austria, when news of the five-second penalty incurred by Lewis Hamilton spread throughout the field with five of the 71 laps remaining.
