Thursday night’s eight-race card at Churchill Downs gets underway at 5 p.m.

Race 1

No. 9 COLLUDE is one of only two returning runners in this 2-year-old sprint. She was second on debut to a horse that went on to finish second in a stakes race next time out. In addition to Collude, trainer Steve Asmussen is sending out No. 5 VESTAL on debut after a bullet workout last week. Works show No. 7 OUR SECRET AGENT could be primed to run well on debut for Mark Casse, while No. 3 CONTENDRESS opens at 10-1 with jockey Corey Lanerie.

9-5-7

Value: 3

Race 2

No. 7 LORD SIMBA is a former stakes winner for Bob Baffert who’ll now debut with trainer Eddie Kenneally, who wins nearly 40 percent of the time off a claim. No. 9 YOU’RE KILLIN ME has routinely been competitive at a better class than he’ll see here. No. 2 CRAWFORD should fit at this class and has finished in the money in 15 of 23 career races. No. 4 HALLIE’S HERO should be near the lead with a shot to be competitive late.

7-9-2

Value: 4

Race 3

No. 1 SHARP WITTED has won 2-of-3 to start his career and now stretches out to a mile against a field that doesn’t look to have a lot of early speed otherwise. No. 4 ARTEMUS BRIDGE beat No. 2 KNIGHT’S CROSS by a nose on a sloppy track at Churchill on May 19. Considering Artemus Bridge has been in the money in all five of his races, he looks a safer bet to improve and challenge for the win here. No. 7 TROY OUNCE won a MSW race in November at Churchill and might fit better at this difficulty and distance after a couple of rough outings.

1-4-2

Value: 7

Race 4

No. 8 ENCORE KITTEN is taking a huge class drop for trainer Danny Gargan and should improve significantly from a lackluster debut on Kentucky Derby Day. No. 7 MACHO ORB is an improving horse that will be running late. No. 10 CLASSICAL MAGIC could appreciate a return to turf and should be fast out of the gate. From the also-eligible list, watch for No. 11 RUNWAY STARLET. She gained late in her last race and could be primed to make a successful return to turf.

8-7-10

Value: 11

Race 5

No. 9 LEWYS VAPORIZER has been flying out of the gate in races at Churchill and is very likely to sprint in front by multiple lengths. Then it’d be a matter of whether several late runners can catch him. No. 5 STAY HOME was able to do it at this distance on May 10. No. 2 BRERRY nearly did so with a half-furlong less on May 26, and No. 8 NIIGON’S GLORY wasn’t far back of them. Meanwhile, No. 3 TURNER TIME had a poor start in that May 10 race and finished close enough to think he could have a say here too with a better trip. Tough call. It’s difficult to feel too confident about any of these despite the fact they’ve been racing so much together.

8-3-9

Value: 5

Race 6

No. 5 SUNDAYSATTHEBEACH rolled to a maiden victory last month at Keeneland at this same distance and figures to be formidable while jumping into allowance company. No. 4 AIFE won last time out at 1 1/16 miles, beating a horse that would go on to win her next race. She looks a contender here for trainer Matt Shirer, who has fared well the first time off a claim. No. 2 GRACEFULPRINCESS has gone 1-1-1 in three starts so far and has been very close to the lead each time. No. 6 GOLDEN CURL didn’t take to a sloppy surface last time, but she was impressive in her first two races and could run well at a decent price.

5-4-2

Value: 6

Race 7

No. 2 FORT FORTITUDE has consistently run well in turf sprints without winning one. That could potentially change here with Lanerie. No. 10 FAST BOAT did well to win a turf sprint on May 16, holding off No. 5 DRAGON DREW, who was flying late from the back of the pack after a slow start. No. 7 MADISON’S LUNA took to the Churchill turf and was quick out of the gate last time. He weakened late but showed enough early speed to be intriguing at 10-1.

2-10-5

Value: 7

Race 8

It’ll be a wide-open maiden claimer to finish the evening. No. 4 ALL IN STEW OUI switches off the turf back to dirt, a move that has often been successful for trainer Ian Wilkes. No. 6 SOLOMONIC drops to a mile for Brad Cox after missing three times at 1 1/16 miles, including a third-place showing at the same claiming level last race. No. 5 UNVEILING adds blinkers and takes a big class drop for Shug McGaughey. The workout times of late for No. 9 CAMPAIGN SPY have been sizzling, suggesting that 8-1 on the morning line won’t hold up until post time.

4-6-5

Value: 9
